A Plague of Angels
A Plague of Angels was my first
encounter with Adam Warren's version of The Dirty Pair and I was instantly
hooked by the detail and quality of the artwork, and the Lovely Angels
themselves (of course!). I managed to acquire issues 2 - 5 from Studio
Proteus and a local comic store but was unable to get issue 1 and
didn't know what happened in the first part until getting the graphic
novel. What was clearly noticable from this missing issue was the
drawing style. Issue 1 was in the same vein as Dangerous Acquainances
while the other issues were more refined with expert use of screen
tones and better tighter character designs - it was like Issue 1 was
produced well before #2, or AW decided to 'get hard at it' after the
first stage. Either way, PoA is my favourite Dirty Pair miniseries
with great characters, action and technology.
The plot is that after the destruction
caused in Dangerous Acquaintances and Biohazards, the WWWA needed
to reduce galatic fears of the Dirty Pair and housed them in a quiet
space habitate called Kalevala where they would lay low and assist
the local Police force. The WWWA hired HighSense magazine to do a
positive spin story on the Angels and the lucky reporter - gorgeous
Cory Emerson got the top job of interviewing the two femmes (because
no-one else was crazy enough to be near them!). However, destruction
and chaos always follow the girls around and Kalevala is the target
for an Industrial Terrorist organisation. Naturally the Angels with
Cory in tow run afoul of the terrorists and chaos and mayhem ensure,
with a good dose of sex and humour! What else could any Kyotaku ask
for?
